A breathtaking urban oasis NOTEL is the brainchild of James Fry. A night at NOTEL is one of exploration. It’s about doing things differently. Doing things you wouldn’t usually do. Getting out of your comfort zone. Checking out hidden laneways. Avoiding the tourist traps. Seeing the real Melbourne. Living like a local.
NOTEL is NOT a hotel, but an experience.
All Airstreams were found in the USA completely gutted, sent on a boat across the Pacific to Geelong. Driven up the highway to Flinders Lane and lifted onto the roof top of the car park using a 50 tone crane.
NOTEL is very Melbourne, if you like a sense of adventure and discovery, you are going to love it here!…but if you are after a traditional hotel or you want everything handed to you, then you’d best stay elsewhere.
This is NOT a hotel. If you are a guest, you are going to have to work out how exactly to get in.
We will give you a clue – it’s a single door that’s hidden near a coffee shop. There is no concierge and guests are emailed or texted a code for their smart phone that they can swipe to get in!
Through years of travel, James felt many hotels kept guests too used to their own habitat, with rooms and food options boringly indistinguishable and tour guide offerings unsurprising.
He sought to create an accommodation experience that encouraged guests to discover the city as a local, where guests are really encouraged to chose their own adventure.
A night at NOTEL is about exploration; getting out to discover Melbourne’s winding laneways, top-class restaurants, the city’s hidden gems and still returning to a unique urban oasis and the comfiest night sleep.
